Before Duro
After Duro
- Revision management next to impossible with no central source of data.
- An accurate central store for all product designs and revisions.
- All Rapid Robotics files were being saved in Google Drive folders.
- A consistent process for validating revision changes ensures everyone is on the same page.
- BOM (Bill of Materials) tables were populated in spreadsheets.
- Engineering teams can confidently reuse parts of a design and iterate much faster.
- Unable to link files or automatically update documentation.
- Ability to manage complete base configurations and reduce workload duplication.
- Heavy, time-consuming manual data entry conducted by Rapid’s teams.
- Introduced robotic supply chain solution powered by Gen-AI, Computer Vision & Machine Learning.
“Duro helps us manage the base configuration of the whole robot. The team can then rapidly create customizations from base templates for specific customer use cases and find earlier revisions. Having central accessibility for all our product data and design revisions makes it easy for us to duplicate or alter products and stay up to date with what we do in the field”.
–Director of Hardware and Mechanical Systems, Rapid Robotics
Introducing Rapid Robotics
Rapid Robotics is reshaping American manufacturing by providing accessible, affordable automation solutions in record time. Rapid builds in-house robotic solutions with human instincts and adaptability combined with robotic reliability, speed, and accuracy. Leveraging generative AI, 3D vision, and machine learning technologies, Rapid Robotics works to remove the complexity of robotic automation in manufacturing and logistics to facilitate business growth.
Rapid Robotics Challenges
Rapid Robotics was slowing production by saving files in Google Drive and populating bill of materials tables in spreadsheets. Without the means to link files or automatically update documentation, this required a lot of manual data entry that presented the risk of errors. Revision management was next to impossible, and as the team grew, they needed a more organized system to see which revision to work from and what revisions had previously been tested.
How an Agile PLM Helped
Rapid Robotics needed a flexible, lightweight platform to streamline workflows and accelerate time to market. They chose Duro to move quickly while maintaining structured processes for bill of materials and change management. Duro now enables their engineering teams to efficiently manage and adapt core product configurations for different customers. As they iterate on designs, engineers can quickly reference and leverage previously tested versions, improving speed and reliability.
Optimizing Product Management
• Centralized and Synchronized Product Data: Duro is the single source of truth for product designs and revisions, enabling engineers to customize templates, duplicate setups, and track design changes with real-time updates.
• CAD and Revision Control: The team uses Duro’s SolidWorks integration to publish and synchronize design templates, ensuring all teams access the latest iterations. Duro enforces a structured revision control process, validating and tracking all changes.
• Streamlined Manufacturing and Procurement: Contract manufacturers receive live updates on firmware and design files, reducing miscommunication and ensuring accurate part orders.
• Agile and Scalable Development: Duro’s qualification process helps the team determine when a design is fully tested, allowing them to confidently reuse components and iterate faster.
Rapid Robotics Growth & Success
By leveraging a PLM with agile workflows, Rapid Robotics quickly developed a highly scalable automation approach, building reusable robots while ensuring efficient change management and cross-team alignment.
In 2024, Rapid Robotics launched Rapid iD, a breakthrough technology that enables robotic arms to accurately pick, inspect, and place objects in end-of-line and logistics operations. Rapid ID helps address labor shortages and simplifies complex manufacturing, logistics, and warehousing processes.
In 2025, Rapid Robotics is working with several major companies, including two top Fortune 100 companies, to integrate automation into their operations, reinforcing its commitment to effective partnerships. These collaborations highlight Rapid’s ability to tailor automation solutions to diverse industries, driving efficiency and scalability at an enterprise level.
